Our journey began in 1983 when founders and current principals Kevin Owens and Jeff Beer, of Boston and New York respectively, met on the basketball court at The University of Vermont. Their common bond was a love of competition and challenge. After graduating in 1987, backpacking in Europe with friends, they talked extensively about a challenge they dreamed of often - building a business. Select Design was born shortly thereafter. On a bitter cold Saturday in Middlebury, VT they sold their first Select Design product - a NCAA Skiing Championships t-shirt. "What made that experience special," Owens recalls, "was the fact that we had been there for almost two days before we sold even one shirt. Although we talked about throwing in the towel and going home, we didn't. By the end of the event, we had sold all 400 shirts that we produced. It was a humbling experience, but it taught us about the need for perseverance." 23 years later, that perseverance has paid off. Select Design works with an array of global brands and approaches each opportunity like the first - with passion and creativity. As Beer points out, "our business is about creating real partnerships by working to understand clearly what our client's goals are, and caring more about the process and the outcome than our competition."
