Sole Technology is looking for an Assistant Photographer to join our team at our Lake Forest, CA office. Sole Technology is home to some of the most respected brands in action sports; those being: (Etnies, Emerica, eS, Thirty-Two Snowboarding, and Altamont Apparel). Being in the action sports space for nearly 40 years; the brands at Sole Technology have undoubtedly played a major role in the development of action sports driven footwear / apparel and continue to do so today.
While a position like this requires technical knowledge; the key to being a successful part of the Sole Technology team is having passion for skateboarding / action sports. We want someone that knows our industry and is excited to work on rad projects with rad people!
General Day to Day Work
This position will primarily consist of eCommerce photography, Photoshop editing, and file management. While there will be instances where the Assistant Photographer helps with marketing projects in studio, on location, and with models / athletes; this position will primarily revolve around creating, editing, and delivering product images for sales teams, catalogs, and our various brand’s websites.
Tasks
• Shoot eCommerce product images of: (footwear, apparel, accessories, etc.)
• Use Adobe creative software; primarily Photoshop, to edit product / marketing imagery. These edits include, but are not limited to: (color correction, clipping, removing blemishes, reshaping, sharpening, etc)
• Deliver images to our staff via Dropbox, Image Relay, our internal servers, etc.
• Set up / tear down the photo studio for various projects. This includes, but is not limited to; operating equipment such as : (C-stands, paper sweeps, v-flats, studio lights, soft-boxes, reflectors, grids, tripods, props, camera bags, cannon cameras, pocket-wizards, batteries, etc.)
• Gather, organize, and style products for various shoots. This includes, but is not limited to: (styling shoes, steaming apparel, styling accessories, etc.)
• Organize, unpack, and set up camera / lighting equipment at location shoots.
• Assist with marketing photoshoots. These shoots include, but are not limited to: (working with models / athletes, studio marketing, location marketing, etc.)
• Ability to travel for location shoots. Locations include, but are not limited to: (Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, etc.)
• Willingness to redo projects if requested by the Photo Studio Director.
• Ability to travel to and from our Lake Forest office. This position will primarily be executed at our Lake Forest office; unless projects allow remote work.
The tasks listed above are a general overview of what the Assistant Photographer position requires, but is not a final list of the tasks needing to be executed for this role. The Photo Studio Director can add any additional tasks they see fit for the Assistant Photographer role at Sole Technology.
Qualifications
• A passion for photography and a desire to learn new skills
• A passion / understanding of action sports; with a strong background in skateboarding
• Understanding of Sole Technology’s brands. The more knowledge of our history the better
• Bachelor’s Degree in photography or previous experience working in a creative field
• Proficient with creative / file management software; such as: (Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Bridge, CaptureOne, FileZilla, ccStudio, etc.)
• Knowledge of batch processing / batch editing
• Knowledge of digital photography gear / techniques. Knowledge of film photography is a plus
• Owning your own equipment is a plus, but not required
• Familiarity with photo studio equipment / portable lights
• Must be able to lift / carry 40-50 pounds
• Ability to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions
• Ability to problem solve and work under pressure
• Naturally creative with a good eye for color and style
• Good listening and communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
