Associate Design Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conceptualization of Product with DD and Category designer
- Fabric and Trim Selection
- 1st General Drawing & Final Tech Pack Specification
- Maintaining technical sketches throughout the product cycle
- Fit Direction & Maintenance
- Fabric Design (pitches) & Approval
- Color Approval
- Create custom graphics for use in sublimation or screen print, in technical and lifestyle apparel.
- Work closely with design and product department for all art requests
- Styling & Fit Comments During Development
- Creation & Maintenance of Season’s Product Presentations
- Execution of Trimming, Wash and Packaging
- Shopping the market on a regular basis for upcoming trends and awareness of all competitors’ product offerings
Additional responsibilities:
- Stay in tune with the needs of Ski/Snowboard market & customer base
- Stay up on trends in and outside of our immediate market
- Stay up on the state of the action sports market
- Stay up on the competition’s product
- Understand & assist in the merchandising of each category
- Travel with the team to explore happenings in select regions/districts each season
- Travel to attend sales meetings and select tradeshows
Competencies:
A designer must have a keen understanding of the action sports lifestyle and the customer that buys our product. He/she should also show an appreciation for the influence that art and music play in the lifestyle and be able to interpret forward fashion designs and concepts into product that works for our market.
Education and/or Experience:
- At least 2 year’s experience in apparel design in the outdoor industry
- A Merchandising, Design, Graphic Arts degree or Bachelor’s degree is preferable and appreciated
Language Skills:
Individual must have ability to:
- Read and interpret documents such as department memos, rep-reports and pertinent periodicals and books.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills:
- Basic math skills: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
Software:
- Advanced to Expert - Mac OSX, Panther, etc.
- Advanced to Expert – Adobe Illustrator
- Intermediate to Advanced – Adobe Photoshop
- Intermediate – Word, Excel
- 3D design experience is a plus
