The Helmet Design Engineer will work closely with the Product Manager(s), Industrial Designer(s), Professional Rider(s), Manufacturing Engineer(s), Product Developer(s) and Quality/Test personnel throughout the product development process in creation of new or redesigned products. S/he is primarily responsible for the development and project management of products once the Project Briefs are submitted through the completion of the Detail Phase of the Product Life Cycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Analyze all proposed Project Briefs and research data for feasibility of design
• Develop conceptual helmet designs based on input from Project Briefs
• Direct manufacturing or building of prototype product, equipment or tooling
• Coordinate research regarding materials and constructions for all projects
• Develop specifications such as 3D models, 2D drawings, Bills of Material and other documentation to facilitate manufacture of product.
• Create and analyze test data/reports to determine if design meets functional, performance, and certification specifications
• Complete tolerance study of project and relate results through the specification package
• Work with product suppliers to ensure product and tooling meet cost parameters
• Work with Manufacturing Engineer to ensure manufacturability of the production design
• Work with Lab and Field Testing personnel to ensure product has passed all required standards
• Adhere to quality system processes and work with quality personnel to ensure product has met all specifications
• Acknowledge that his/her work affects the quality level of the final product
• Manage project through design process and track progress
• Keep informed of the latest developments in the field by reading trade journals, individual contacts and attendance at appropriate meetings and/or trade shows
• Stay in-touch with core customers by attending grassroots sales or competition events
• Take onother duties as assigned by the Business Unit Director as appropriate

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with 2-4 years prior experience in a similar position.
• Must have working knowledge of CAD software, technical drawings, and bill of material structure. Solidworks and Creo preferred.
• Must have project management experience for taking a project from conception to production.
• Must be proficient with basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office.
• Needs organized approach to work and efficient scheduling of personal time.
• Able to function as a team player while at the same time be self-motivated.
• Must have effective communication and organization skills.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to travel for periods up to two weeks to both domestic and international locations.
