POSITION SUMMARY //
The Buyer will increase company profitability and customer satisfaction by purchasing store product in a timely manner and at the lowest cost. The Buyer will coordinate vendor activity and negotiations, as well as analyze trends, vendor pricing and sales activity to determine the correct timing of product purchases. This position is responsible for achieving product and financial objectives for inventory, across all product divisions. To summarize, the Buyer will be expected to set a product vision each season and assure the vision is being executed in store, in adherence to calendar and budget expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES //
• Sourcing and selecting new products through catalogs and by attending trade fairs and events
• Monitoring market changes, competitor prices and products
• Analyzing past sales patterns to anticipate trends in consumer buying pattern
• Recommending clearance sales and varying delivery schedules to help control stock levels
• Presenting new ranges to retail managers
• Assisting visual merchandisers in planning store layouts to promote key lines
• Working with the advertising department in order to present sales promotions.
• Analyze and maintain stock levels inline with store needs and sales.
• Work closely with vendors to negotiate returns and swap outs for non-moving items.
• Negotiate prices, discount terms and transportation arrangements for merchandise
• Meet with as well as work closely with vendors to obtain desired products and/or any advertising, promotion, event needs.
• Authorize payment of invoices or return of merchandise in a timely manner.
• Complete PO’s for all orders when placed.
• Maintain a PO calendar and coordinate shipments to ensure a smooth workflow with receiving’s.
• Turn in proper consignment reporting to pay for consignment merchandise sold.
• Work closely with consignment vendors in said departments to ensure sell through and high turn rate per SQFT.
• Set mark-up rates, markdown rates, and also selling prices for merchandise in said departments.
• Conduct staff meetings with sales personnel to introduce new merchandise and train on sales techniques and coordinate sales goals and contest.
• Manage the departments by maintaining the floor with proper stock levels, merchandising, and signage and product placement. Utilize correct staffing to complete
• Work the floor in those departments weekly to gain customer feedback, merchandise and sell the products.
• Process all damages in said departments in a timely manner and put procedures in place to limit shrink and LP.
• Complete Monthly reports on vendor and department performance and set up monthly meeting with GM and Ownership (if available) to go over reports and needs.
• Maintain a team oriented attitude in store and motivate the sales team working in said departments with feedback and training when necessary.
