Ever been accused of being too competitive or having too much energy? Looking for a job where it’s not just about what you do, but how you do it? Want to work someplace where you feel challenged all day but it never really feels like work?
Zumiez is just that place! Zumiez is a mall-based retailer targeting teenagers who are active in the snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing lifestyle. Headquartered in Everett, Washington, Zumiez is on an aggressive growth path with almost 350 stores and over 5,000 employees spread out across the United States. We’re currently looking for someone who wants to create and execute an overall strategy of California centric compliance. You’ll use your vast knowledge to develop compliance reporting, assist California managers in Employee Relations issues, administer state specific training and educate California employees regarding leave types and eligibility. As a compliance expert, you’ll conduct ongoing research and in-store visits in order to develop timely reporting to measure store compliance as it relates to wage and hour, minor work permits, etc. In your spare time, you’ll help on a variety of small and major HR initiatives that will be fun, challenging, and make a giant impact. This job is all about owning the position – making the decisions, developing the plan, and then rolling up your sleeves and doing the work. Zumiez offers a competitive compensation and benefits package with all your standards. Beyond that, we’ve got an office environment you won’t find anywhere else. Jeans, sandals, shorts are standard – as are tattoos, piercings, and skateboards flying down the hall. Zumiez offers great product discounts, professional development opportunities, and tons of fun.
Job Requirements:
• BA/BS in human resources, business or closely related field
• Five or more years of Human Resources Generalist experience, including leading compliance efforts, employee relations and leave administration
• Solid understanding of Federal and California state employment-related laws
• Ability to lead training efforts at a multi-worksite location. Ability to travel to California 5 – 10 days a month is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Great time management skills. Ability to multi task and review priorities as other demands come into play on a daily basis
• Strong skills such as, organization, attention to detail, implementation, project management and follow through are critical to be successful in this position
• ADP, Ceridian or other payroll system knowledge preferred
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
• PHR and/or SPHR required. PHR-CA certification preferred.
