Now, (here’s the tough one) raise your hand if you are qualified to take on our newly created position of Design Assistant for Emerica. Is it up? Ok then, you passed. With the way we’ve been growing, there’s a very good chance that you might be able to get in with our crew, but only if you are the best and brightest Design Assistant out there. Does assisting our Apparel Designer for Emerica in all areas of apparel design and development sound like something you’d like to do? Then read on to get the details of the job and the qualifications we’re looking for in our next up-and-coming Design Assistant.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
• Assisting with design direction
• Researching fabrics and forecast trends
• Assisting Designer on project components, research, document management, etc
• Preparing complete Tech Packs for all categories (Mens and Boys) to ensure Designer’s vision is clearly represented (matrix, sketches, color rotations, fabric swatches and any other pertinent information) and do so within calendar timelines set by management
• Communicating daily with Product Development, as well as suppliers when applicable
• Preparing line for all Design Meetings, Photo Shoots, and Sales Meetings
• Communicating with Merchandiser, Designer, Brand Marketing Manager, and Brand Group on line direction
• Suggesting design solutions and make recommendations to the team (Product Development, Merchandising, and Design) when Supervising Designer is unavailable
• Assisting other staff members of Design and Merchandising on other projects as assigned (when necessary) i.e. presentation preparation, sales meeting preparation, sample line management, etc.
• Attending all fittings with Designer OR in place of Designer when Designer is unable to attend document all fit changes and comments for designer
• Managing all Tech Packs and maintaining an up-to-date and accurate filling system of all Tech Packs and current projects for Designer
• Work with Product Development Team to create solutions and streamline the process.
These are the qualifications and skills you’ll need to have to be considered for this role:
• Fashion College degree OR an minimum of 3 years working in a related field in lieu of a degree
• Must have a basic understanding of design and design process
• Understanding of basic garment construction and general fabric knowledge a must
• Knowledge of fabrications and pattern making a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Must be able to work well under pressure, take direction, and meet calendar deadlines
• Must possess the ability to prioritize and plan work activities affectively
• Be comfortable adapting to changes in work environment
• Must have intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office applications, Photo Shop, and Adobe Illustrator
