About the opportunity

Based in Carlsbad, California and reporting directly to the CFO/COO, Zoot is looking for an enthusiastic & energetic Director of Finance to manage and oversee the daily accounting functions of the business. The ideal candidate will be a critical member of the management team that will work closely with the CFO/COO on strategic decision making aspects of the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Financial Management:
• Oversee and manage the general accounting functions of the business, including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, payroll, and taxes.
• Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for business operations.

Strategic Analysis:
• Oversee and coordinate the preparation of the Company’s annual Budget.
• Prepare and review monthly management statements, reports, and forecasts against the budget and provide accurate and timely insights into the company's financial performance.
• Regularly analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making by the executive team.

Inventory Management:
• Prepare and analyze monthly and yearly inventory sales reports to monitor stock levels throughout the year and prepare the buying and refill recommendations that will maximize sales, profitability, and inventory whilst mitigating obsolescence risk.
• Prepare the Inventory buy for each seasonal drop of product.

Compliance and Reporting:
• Coordinate the timely completion of monthly Sales tax filings, and other financial reporting requirements.
• Coordinate annual external audits and ensure timely completion of audit processes.
• Collaborate with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax filings and reporting.

Internal Controls and improvement:
• Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent financial irregularities.
• Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements within the finance and operations department.
• Implement accounting software and tools to streamline financial reporting and analysis.

Team Management:
• Lead and mentor a small team to ensure efficiency and accuracy in our financial and operations department.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Accounting required.
• Minimum 7 years accounting experience with progressive responsibilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to support and enhance a team-based environment.
• Proficiency with technology tools, including intermediate Excel proficiency, advanced Excel proficiency desired.
• Critical thinking, problem solving, organizational skills and ability to adapt, multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer service mindset.
• Industry experience in Apparel, Retail or Sports manufacturing highly desired.

Note – this role is based in Carlsbad, CA, however it will include some travel out of state from time to time. The successful applicant will be required to be present in the Carlsbad office. This role is NOT being offered as a remote or out of state position.
