We are looking for a Director of Planning.


The Director of Planning is a strategic leader who drives alignment between inventory investments, sales forecasts, financial targets and seasonal buys for wholesale and ecom. By integrating demand forecasting, sales analytics, and inventory optimization, this role ensures that the brand’s product assortment and distribution strategy meet consumer demand, achieve revenue and margin objectives, and support the company’s long-term growth. Collaborating closely with sales, merchandising, production, and finance, the Director of Planning shapes a data-driven approach that empowers the business to respond nimbly to market trends, seasonal shifts, and evolving customer preferences.

Key Duties:

Strategic Forecasting & Demand Planning:

  • Work with finance on annual revenue plans, driving the merchandise team line planning process and eventual sales goals by channel
  • Oversee the seasonal buy process for wholesale & ecom, considering market trends, historical performance, product lifecycles, and seasonal factors.
  • Align product availability with wholesale, key accounts, and brand e-commerce needs, ensuring efficient inventory deployment that supports revenue & margin goals.

Sales Analysis & Business Insights:

  • Analyze multi-channel sales performance to identify opportunities, risks, and product category trends.
  • Create and present regular performance reports, dashboards, etc., that inform strategic decisions on pricing, assortment, and margin.
  • Partner with the sales and merchandising teams to determine on seasonal line plans guiding future line plans, shaped by long term revenue goals.
  • Work with the E-commerce Director to optimize pricing, discounts, and promotional strategies to drive sales and profitability.

Inventory Optimization & Financial Management:

  • Collaborate with production and supply chain teams to ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time, minimizing past completes and markdowns.
  • Manage seasonal buys and ecom OTB budgets, maintaining healthy inventory turnover rates while maximizing gross margin return on investment (GMROI).
  • Implement best practices in inventory management to enhance product lifecycle efficiency and profitability.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication:

  • Serve as a key liaison between merchandising, sales, marketing, finance, and operations, ensuring that planning decisions are in line with brand goals
  • Communicate forecast updates, inventory positions, and sales insights to executive leadership, providing clear rationale and recommendations for strategic action.

Sales Planning & Negotiation:

  • Support Sales VP’s role in creating sales and margin plans for each major account.
  • Align with Sales VP in negotiating ending margin and markdown commitments in accordance with the seasonal budget
  • Drive annual bottom up forecast process, aligning with Sales VP on rep goals and reporting

Data Analysis & Insights:

  • Monitor sell-through performance, stock levels, and replenishment needs for each account.
  • Provide feedback to product teams based on customer and consumer insights.

Skills:

  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable strategies.
  • Proficiency with forecasting software, ERP, PLM, and business intelligence tools (Excel, Power BI, or similar).
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities, capable of influencing cross-functional partners and executive stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, able to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day operational demands.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic, multi-channel environment, maintaining composure and focus under shifting priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management.
  • 7-10 years of experience in planning, demand forecasting, or sales analytics roles within apparel or consumer goods.
  • Demonstrated success in managing OTB, driving margin improvements, and optimizing product assortments for multiple sales channels.
  • Experience partnering with senior leadership and guiding cross-functional teams toward data-driven decisions.
  • Solid understanding of the wholesale and e-commerce environments, as well as the specialty account and major retail landscapes.
