Dakine is looking for a Technical Designer / Patternmaker to join the team at headquarters in Hood River, OR.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Outerwear Technical Designer concentrates on product fit and construction through specifications, product analysis, communication with vendor/factory, and takes pride in the brand while maintaining a positive working relationship with internal teams and overseas factories.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITUES TO MAINTAIN JOB OBJECTIVE:

• Partner with design up front to interpret style concepts.
• Document measurements, tolerances, grade rules, construction details, and additional technical requirements, as needed using DAKINE format.
• Develop new feature ideas and collaborate with design on cost effective concepts.
• Ensure technical packages are consistent with DAKINE standards.
• Update and maintain the product manual details as needed with product evolution.
• Document proto, fit, and Pre-­‐Production (PP) sample comments/corrections using DAKINE standard format.
• Measure, fit and evaluate construction on samples with written documentation, visual images and technical sketches as needed.
• Make pattern suggestive corrections as needed and collaborate with Fit Engineer/Patternmaker at factory when necessary.
• Maintain approved sample and pattern library for Fit and PP samples per season.
• Communicate and collaborate with technical counterparts at vendor/factory and overseas offices regarding all technical issues and sample corrections.
• Maintain proto, fit, and PP sample tracking log with sample received, fitting, comments, and corrected sample due dates.
• Understand fabrics and how specifications impact garment fit – stretch, recovery, modulus, etc.
• Maintain consistent fit across product categories ensuring blocks are properly established and correctly utilized following DAKINE standards and formats.
• Leader for proto, fit and PP sample live model sessions.
• Review salesman samples with design to ensure aesthetic direction is clear for production fitting:
• Review Top of Production (TOP) samples when issues arise.
• Create clear communication tools including sketches and photos as needed.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Collaborate with Product Development to understand calendar and execute accordingly.
• Call out potential concerns up front, evaluating and communicating issues as they occur.
• Understand and execute efficiently and cost effectively all technical aspects.
• Create all graded specs and review with factories as needed.
• Participate in special projects when appropriate.
• Various other duties, projects and responsibilities may fall under this role on an as needed basis.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor degree or technical education in a related field of study or equivalent functional experience.
• Pattern experience in outerwear or equivalent functional experience – 5-7 years
• Grading experience in outerwear or equivalent functional experience – 5-7 years
Fitting experience (live model and fit form) – 5 years
Garment construction experience – 5 years for mass production techniques
Specification Creation experience – 5 years
Sketching and image documentation experience – 5 years
Computer literate – Excel, Outlook, Illustrator, Mac
Ability to work independent and within a team environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite and Adobe programs.
• Knowledge of Gerber and/or Lectra systems a plus.
• Valid US work permit
