OluKai is looking for a Product Developer to join the team in Portland, OR.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Footwear Product Developer-I will be responsible for facilitating the product creation process from the approved design through confirmation stage.
General Responsibilities:
• Work cross-functionally within a team oriented structure consisting of all disciplines necessary to develop a product line achieving product objectives within the established timelines.
• Coordinate all phases of development utilizing the available resources of Product Line Management, Design, Costing, Duty, Compliance, Product Testing, and Fit and Wear Testing
• Ensure that all product is developed within established target FOB in order to achieve company margin goals by reviewing cost breakdown sheets to determine accuracy of material usage and cost.
• Be proactive to generate new ideas, materials and components for enhanced product creation and innovation.
• Assist in the management of seasonal development for all new product and meet pre-established timelines for completion.
• Product must be developed to specifications and guidelines set forth by the team (Design, Development, Product Line Management)
• Product must be developed to meet all fit and durability standards with our highest level of craftsmanship.
• Be a key creative contributor to the product creation process.
• Ensure manufacturability of all product concepts.
Skills Development:
• Proactively works with Management to advance and build a personal portfolio of development skills, experiences and product and process knowledge.
• Provides development support as needed, even when tasks fall outside of an assigned project load.
Duties (include but not limited to):
• Serve as a product information resource for product line management, design, development and other members of product teams.
• Attend meetings with relevant product creation team members during all phases of the development process.
• Contribute ideas for product design, construction, materials, and components to enhance functionality, aesthetics, fit, and product margin.
• Assist in revisions to color and design packages where necessary through the use of Illustrator and/or Photoshop.
• Generate development packages to communicate intended construction and aesthetic details for each project to overseas development partners and partnering factories(construction, color, materials, form, style, detail, cost/value requirements)
• Pro-actively follow the execution of all product details.
• Evaluate product team feedback and implement revisions as appropriate.
• Work with Development Manager/Director to ensure that all new CAD work is confirmed prior to opening molds for new styles. Learn all aspect of the tooling process as it relates to seasonal product.
• Examine all prototypes to assure all product is correct to spec and within product compliance, duty and cost targets.
• Lead all fit and wear testing from early prototypes to final confirmed wear testing, implement product revisions as appropriate to meet fit goals.
• Maintain and communicate project status weekly to internal teams.
• Achieve timeline milestones and on time delivery for sample deliverables at appropriate maturities.
• Confirm final development confirmation samples on time and ensure samples meet expected quality and accuracy standards.
• Maintain project status on a seasonal basis and communicate challenges weekly and where appropriate.
• Be an active participant in weekly meetings with overseas development and partnering factories.
• International travel(2-3 times per calendar year)and domestic travel (5-6 times per calendar year) as required to achieve a high level of product and component development, including visits to manufacturing countries / factories, the OluKai-Irvine office and material/trade shows.
Requirements:
• Bachelor Degree required, applicable technical degree preferred - manufacturing, mechanical, or chemical engineering, product design, biomechanics, etc.
• At least 5 years experience in footwear development.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, work ethic, and teamwork.
• Should have footwear competitive market awareness combined with technical problem solving ability.
• Detail oriented, self motivated with strong decision making capabilities.
• Current industry standard technical knowledge of footwear development and manufacturing processes.
• Strong communications skills with experience communicating product details.
• Unique abilities required: Overseas and domestic travel will be required on a seasonal basis, irregular working hours should be expected during peak periods when deadlines are present.
