Art Traffic / Production Manager
Position Purpose:
The Art Traffic and Production Manager will work closely with the Brand/Art Director and SVP of Marketing and Brand to schedule, track, coordinate and deliver on all graphic design and marketing production. Oversees internal marketing production department as well as manages external marketing production processes, managing production steps from inception, estimation, production, billing, completion, follow-up, and archiving. Is responsible for global design and production timeline for all design-related projects, driving designers to meet deadlines, coordinating all necessary approvals promptly, and ensuring timely delivery of the highest quality end product that is reflective/representative of the Zumiez brand and image.
As part of a small, dynamic, multi-hat wearing team, qualified individuals will be: able to work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment self-motivated flexible extremely organized very detail-oriented tenacious yet tactful confident and diplomatic in dealing with competing departmental objectives and varied personalities a strong problem solver able to work well under pressure in order to meet project deadlines and will have a positive attitude.
Supervises:
This position may supervise one or more production assistants as necessary.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Develop/maintain/own a global design and production timeline, ensuring final delivery deadlines are met for all projects that involve graphic design.
• Project manage all sourcing and production (internal and external) for all projects that involve graphic design and/or Marketing.
• Process incoming requests addressing needs of all other departments, and manage job orders through completion.
• Projects include but are not limited to:
- All signage/POP/graphic materials placed in every Zumiez store location, including seasonal comprehensive sign packages, promotional signage, advertising, marketing event signage, vendor supplied POP, etc
- All printed graphic materials/displays for Zumiez national training/recognition events, including décor backdrops, banners, etc
- Marketing promotional product supporting all marketing activities, including promo merchandise, banners, stickers, posters, flyers
- Print advertising materials (currently TransWorld Skate- and Snowboarding Magazines)
• Misc. requests for graphic design from all internal departments
• Manage production process and internal production team to ensure smooth flow of projects in progress detailed above, quality of images/materials produced and adherence to deadlines.
• Drive Art Director and Graphic Design Team to hit all deadlines established on the global timeline, from initial comps submitted for approval through final production art, ensuring timely delivery of final production art to production resource.
• Drive internal approval process on all design projects, working with other depts. to receive approvals as needed
• Schedule meetings and lead when necessary ie planning, creative review, production review
• Follow up with necessary team members to obtain needed or missing information (ie signage copy/details) or to resolve conflicting information
• Anticipate milestones in schedule, immediately raising flags to team members when a deadline is in jeopardy
• Oversee internal sign production department, including but not limited to:
- Prepare and manage entire store sign production budget, manage actual costs to budget, from estimating and negotiating through billing process
- Perform detailed cost review and analysis of internal sign production dept. operations and output. Identify areas needing cost control and opportunities for potential cost savings.
- Develop production staff as needed to handle increasing volume and maintain quality and efficiency of output.
- Assist in developing and maintaining the annual master calendar addressing output requirements. Perform analysis of multiple factors to make in house vs. outsourced production recommendations.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with outside vendors. Source vendors as needed depending on changing production requirements, cost and service issues.
- Complete annual vendor review and RFP process.
- Evaluate resource needs, research and compare options and make recommendations with regard to capital purchases and other resource enhancements.
• Purchase vendor services and supervise through delivery. Provide timely cost estimates and initiate purchase orders as needed. Manage costs to ensure projects are within budget requirements. Check, verify, and code vendor invoices, and follow up with vendors if there is a problem with an invoice.
• Perform ongoing process review to streamline procedures and institute best practices.
• Thoroughly document all policies and procedures for management and training purposes.
Qualifications:
• Proven record of strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, and to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• Good decision making and problem solving skills.
• Strong computer and analytical skills detailed experience with spreadsheets.
• Ability to interact effectively with different personality styles and with employees at all levels of the organization must possess confidence in communication style and diplomacy.
• Proven ability to manage a budget with focus on efficiency, effectiveness and cost control.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, within the set timeline and meeting the standards set by Marketing Team.
• Ability to understand and respond to all issues related to assigned projects.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to reprioritize to changing needs.
• Ability to stay focused.
• Ability to work independently (self starter) and as part of a team.
• Ability to work well in a fast moving multi-task environment.
• Heightened sense of urgency to drive projects through all phases, adhering to tight deadlines and changing situations.
• High standards for time management.
• Project management experience required.
• Knowledge of Print Production and processes preferred.
• Action Sports and/or Retail experience preferred.
• Technical Requirements:
- Expert or advance knowledge of Mac OS operating system
- Expert or advance knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Recommended:
* Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and Power Point
* Working knowledge or experience with Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign)
