General Position Summary:

You will be responsible for exciting and innovative brand marketing for our Sorel product. You will be developing and implementing marketing communication programs that support the alignment of brand, product and communication initiatives that will be driving our Sorel products long-term global strategies and business objectives. You will be a key member of the marketing leadership team, and will be working directly under the leadership of the Global VP of Marketing.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership for Sorel to create a unified global message enhancing the brand image.

Ensure global brand initiatives are supported by and aligned with product creation initiatives by leading marketing’s involvement in the global go-to-market process for the Sorel brand.

Oversee the development and execution of integrated strategic marketing plans by providing leadership, managing resources and training and encouraging collaboration between various marketing functions including product marketing, public relations, promotions, web, retail, advertising and media.

Know and have an expert understanding of the target consumer and the end use of the product.

Work with Research department to develop research and competitive plans that support business objectives and strategic priorities. Review changes in the marketplace and adjust marketing plans accordingly.

Based on market and consumer knowledge, create and deliver marketing strategies and communication programs that are on-trend, market right and brand right.

Manage the implementation of programs, which may include analyzing customer requirements, developing messaging architecture and competitive positioning, specifying vehicles/projects, securing resources, communicating project development and driving processes. Manage and analyze the program and strategy effectiveness.

Create and foster effective partnerships with internal business units (Marketing, Creative Services, Product Groups, Sales, Retail and International) and external partners (ad agencies, PR agencies, media, sales reps, athletes, licensees, distributors, and community leaders).

Collaborate with the Global VP of Marketing to select and engage outside marketing agencies to assist with the development of original programs and strategies.

Evaluates agency performance and makes recommendations to continue or terminate agency contracts.

Work with functional marketing heads, including Creative Services, Promotions, Public Relations, Product Marketing, Sales, Retail and International to develop, manage and execute marketing communication programs in their respective areas of responsibility, in support of product categories.

Monitor the development process from design concept through commercialization and provide leadership and direction around achieving desired end results and identify and drive diplomatic solutions when areas are in conflict.

Evaluate all Marketing Communications programs and material, including those proposed and/or prepared by ad agencies. Coordinate and supervise the fulfillment of chosen communication strategies, concepts and tactics.

Maintain and build account relationships with key customers by making periodic visits exploring account needs and addressing issues. Represents the Company in meetings/negotiations with high-level customers, house accounts and select projects.

Work with Global VP of Marketing to define and monitor geographic regions and ratios of marketing spend to maximize marketing budget and grow brand presence across the global marketplace. Make adjustments as needed based on markets and corporate business objectives of strengthening brand awareness and sales growth.

Monitors marketing activities and provides regular reports on marketing programs, goals by region/territory to the Global VP of Marketing.

Collaborates with the VP’s of Footwear and Apparel Merchandising on marketing strategies and brand initiatives and provides feedback on campaign progress.

Showcase communication programs through marketing strategy, concept, design and program presentations to key retailers, business unit meetings (BUM’s) and at Sales Meetings.



Specific Job Skills:

Must have a deep and thorough knowledge of marketing theory, practices and related functions, a strong understanding of multi-brand strategies and an expert grasp of the global outdoor consumer.

Requires working knowledge of other functions including Sales, Planning, Finance, Merchandising and Production.

Possess excellent organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent presentation skills. Must have mental capability to troubleshoot and solve problems of moderate complexity or difficulty.

Ability to analyze market conditions and respond with appropriate strategies and direction.


Demonstrated ability to lead and influence individuals and teams while driving results through teamwork and collaboration. Ability to effectively leverage and utilize resources and relationships for optimal results for the creation and guidance of all product categories.

Must be creative and innovative across all mediums of communication. Ability to develop a theme or tell a story around an initiative with a consistent voice.

Requires ability to analyze, troubleshoot, problem solve, make difficult decisions independently, operate autonomously, manage multiple deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.

Possess thorough knowledge of public relations, SEC Rules, promotional and communications techniques, and advertising and media avenues.

Ability to represent the company in a manner that enhances its image. This is a public position that requires a great deal of sensitivity and ability to handle difficult situations with discretion and tact. Handles and works with proprietary, private and confidential information.

Requires excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills. Must be able to professionally deliver convincing presentations to groups of all sizes. Must be able to work effectively with multiple organizations in the business and have the ability to influence and lead across multiple teams.


Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or related field required.

Requires a minimum of eight to ten years marketing experience in positions of progressive responsibility. Experience to include: developing strategic& integrated marketing plans, implementing programs, build & maintain account relationships, develop & evaluate brand initiatives, evaluation of communications programs & materials.

Eight to ten years experience managing and leading a team of professionals and multiple projects required.

Experience with Public relations in a publicly held company preferred.

Requires brand marketing experience, preferably in Footwear, Apparel, Fashion Industry, Consumer Products, Athletic Industry, or Outdoor Product Industry.
