Field Marketing Managers are accountable for spreading the word of CLIF by developing and implementing creative, grassroots field marketing strategies designed to maximize opportunities for consumer exposure to CLIF Bar & Company products in assigned geographic markets. The incumbent is responsible for field marketing activity for the LUNA and CLIF Kid brands as identified by the Senior Field Marketing Manager including leading the planning and execution of events and promotional programs that support the broader brand and business objectives developing, managing and tracking a regional budget recruiting, hiring and training a knowledgeable team of crew members to support events and promotional activities direct sampling at various venues engaging with target consumers about product features and value and gathering direct consumer feedback and intelligence.

This position is responsible for overseeing field marketing activity for the LUNA and CLIF Kid brands in Los Angeles, California (primary market) as well as Las Vegas, Nevada (secondary market). The candidate must reside in Los Angeles or the immediate area.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Develop and implement regional marketing strategies for the LUNA and CLIF Kid brands designed to access and develop a strong presence for these two products in assigned geographic and target demographic markets. Represent all that CLIF Bar & Company and products stand for. Educate consumers on general principles of nutrition, latest nutritional trends, ingredients and stated nutritional claims of our competitors' products, and ingredients and nutritional benefits of CLIF Bar products.

2. Recruit, hire, manage and train a regional team consisting of a Crew Captain and Crew Members (contract employees) to support events and other promotional activities. Provide assignments, monitor performance, track and report activities and complete and forward time sheets, invoices and expenses to the Senior Field Marketing Manager for approval.

3. Sample directly to consumers and influencers in a variety of venues in ways that complement and reinforce company philosophy, foster brand strategy, differentiate LUNA and CLIF Kid from the competition, generate and facilitate trial and create an experience for the consumer.

4. Initiate contact and build relationships with market influencers, such as promoters, athletes, nutritionists, key retailers, and resort and spa owners radio, provide samples and product Information, and follow through, coordinating with sales to generate new customers.

5. Support the efforts of both the internal LUNA and CLIF Kid Brand and Experience Marketing teams. Collaborate on the development of annual marketing plans for the LUNA and CLIF Kid brands. Recommend and coordinate regional events and promotional activities, execute on site promotions, and generate visibility and consumer interaction at events. Coordinate with the internal public relations team to increase national coverage and regional media exposure for products and regional promotions.

6. Manage, track and deliver regional marketing budget that includes regional promotions and event expenditures, operations costs and payroll for Crew Captains and Crew Members (contract employees).

7. Prepare reports and analyses that summarize activities, measure and evaluate results of various field-marketing efforts. Provide intelligence regarding brand image, new product performance, consumer preferences, and retail availability and placement of products in field locations. Also track and report on competitor activity, including new product information, retail availability and placement and marketing activities.


Job Difficulty:

Incumbents are challenged to creatively explore new, cost effective field marketing opportunities and tactics that fit within the established guidelines of the program, complement company image and overall brand strategy and provide an opportunity for one on one interaction with the consumer. They must maintain knowledge and understanding of Clif Bar's company philosophy, brand strategies, national sales and marketing plans, and objectives, strategies, and tactics of the field marketing program. Additionally, incumbents must maintain in depth knowledge of product features, ingredients and values, in order to effectively persuade sales and influence trial.

Education and Experience:

An undergraduate degree in business with an emphasis in Marketing, Advertising or Communications is preferred with a minimum of 5 years' direct/experiential marketing experience required, including responsibility for development and execution of marketing plans. Experience with budget management and previous supervisory experience is also required. Successful performance requires skills in /project planning, timeline management and organization, creative analysis and judgment, tactical planning and problem solving, verbal/written communication, the ability to adapt to a variety of personal and work styles, and the ability to influence others to a point of view in a positive manner.
