Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a Firmware/Software Engineering Intern for the Nike Smart Systems (NSS) team. You will be responsible for working with the NSS firmware and software team to enable innovative consumer electronics products that help make athletes better. This role will assist with the development of a robust firmware platform by designing efficient, testable, and scalable code that can execute across different hardware platforms to enable amazing athlete product experiences. You will need excellent creativity, communication, presentation, troubleshooting, time-management and analytical skills. Strong team first attitude and willingness to learn and grow with assistance from an experienced team are critical.

What youll experience:
In this role, you will be working with the internal Nike Smart Systems (NSS) firmware, software, QA, and algorithm teams; as well as partner organizations. You will work on a common firmware platform that supports multiple products, designing portable and scalable firmware components. You will gain a deep understanding of different sensing technologies, bringing them to life in integrated footwear and apparel for both research and consumer experiences.
You will work with Director of Firmware and Software Engineering for NSS. You will work closely with other internal and external firmware, software, and algorithm resources. You will have the opportunity to work in a small team environment, partnering closely with and mentoring other team members. As part of a small team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of technologies, and get both depth and breadth of exposure to emerging technologies. The NSS Team sits within Nike Innovation, and partners with other research-focused groups, to bring exciting new capabilities to market.

What you will bring:
Qualifications:
Enrolled in a Masters or PhD program with an expected graduation date of December 2024 or Spring 2025
Background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
3-5 years work experience strongly preferred
Resume submission (PDF) required
Skills:
Exposure to firmware for different microprocessors and with different tool chains including small footprint embedded systems.
Ability to understand specifications and architectural documentation in order to assist with creating prototypes, proof-of-concepts, for digitally-enabled products.
Basic understanding of embedded firmware architecture and system design.
Exposure to software design processes, methodologies and approaches and exposure to firmware for BLE, UART, SPI, I2C, USB and other communication protocols.
Ability to read schematics and work through hardware level system issues.
