The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA), the official trade association of surf industry manufacturers and product suppliers, is looking for a Communications Coordinator.
A successful candidate is one who can write in a consistent voice to accurately represent the association and appeal to its target audience, as well as accurately represent the surf industry to media. SIMA is looking for an individual who is passionate about what he or she does and will apply it to any and all efforts while a part of the SIMA team. This person must be open to learning about SIMA’s membership base and initiatives, as well as trade association policies and operations.
The Communications Coordinator role offers opportunities for you to:
• Draft and edit copy, including but not limited to member newsletters, press releases, event and association marketing collateral, Web site content, e-mail blasts, trade show guide letters, etc.
• Assist in project coordination of marketing/event collateral including but not limited to promo cards, registration pieces, invitations, etc.
• Maintain and manage association Web sites to ensure all written and corresponding visual aspects are up to date.
• Regularly correspond with members via e-mail.
• Assist with media relations at specific functions, as well as help filter and direct media inquiries track media coverage.
• Coordinate the grant application process for SIMA’s Environmental and Humanitarian Funds.
Qualifications Needed:
• 1-2 years experience/or recent grad with relevant course work and internships.
• BA degree is required – in PR or Communications a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Copy writing and editing experience.
• Experience on a MAC is a preferred, but not required (basic instruction will be provided).
• Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Competency in QuarkXpress and Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
• Must live in Orange County area, no relocation reimbursement available
