As the Head of Health, Wellness & Benefits, you will provide strategic direction and oversight of the company’s health and welfare programs, benefits, absence management and play a key role in HR operations. You will design and implement solutions to manage this suite of work that focuses on compliance, simplicity and employee support and education. In this role you will report to the Head of North America People and Culture + Global Ops and lead a team of twelve.
Stepping into this role, you will oversee three core areas which will compromise your leadership team: benefits, absence management, the HR Help Desk and will work in conjunction with these teams and leaders to implement operational improvements and efficiencies that center around employee support and compliance. The ideal candidate will have expertise in benefits and working knowledge of absence management and other HR operations areas, with an employee-centric approach. With the overall goal of continuing to differentiate and elevate Patagonia as a leader in the benefits and employer of choice space, you should bring an out of the box approach while maintaining a strong lens on process, compliance and how these offerings dovetail in the broader global framework of the employee experience.
What You’ll Do:
Benefits
Strategically guide, manage and administer the company’s benefits programs. Ensure the organization’s strategy and programs are effectively communicated to employees.
Research health and wellness program trends and compare them against the company’s plans, as required, to maintain a best-in-class experience for employees.
Think creatively to propose unique benefit offerings while always using the lens of equity and inclusion.
Work with leadership across People & Culture and Finance to evaluate cost, value add and return on investment for plan innovations.
Evaluate the benefits of vendor relationships and markets, as required, to remain competitive.
Work with global partners to understand employee needs in all locations and create parity among plans to align with Patagonia’s mission.
Absence Management
Provide thought leadership in relationship to the company’s paid leave programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal statutes.
Utilize industry knowledge and best practices to enhance accommodation and return to work programs related to Americans with Disabilities Act and Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
Lead efforts to set employees and managers up for success following leave of absence/return to work.
Oversee compliance related to workers’ compensation and partner with others in Company to address matters of workplace safety.
Employee Help Desk
Continue the shaping of the People & Culture Help Desk team, creating content to help employees solve day-to-day problems with a focus on customer service.
Ensure the Help Desk is a simple resource for employees with questions related to benefits, pay or business operations.
Support organizational teams with crisis management as necessary.
In conjunction with other key stakeholders, manage all Company programs and processes related to Covid-19.
Operations
In conjunction with other key stakeholders, ensure all HR policies are compliant and equitable. Design and implement solutions to manage this suite of work.
Play a key role in managing the Company’s employee handbooks and ensure the operations of the team are constantly adapting to support needed changes.

Experience You Bring:
Fifteen+ years of work experience in HR and benefits. Experience in wide range of functional areas of HR, including deep knowledge of insurance and benefits, 401(k) administration, compliance, absence management and operations.
Operated within an international company. Understands how to manage and influence distributed employees of various types across geographies. A proven track record of designing solutions that support a global employee experience.
A proven track record of influencing, leading and facilitating large scale strategic initiatives with multiple senior stakeholders across regions as needed.
A track record of providing creative, equitable, proactive and contemporary designs and programs responsive to Patagonia’s evolving strategies.
Experience building, leading, and mentoring a diverse and high-performing team.
Pay range: $150,144-$250,240
Hiring range: $195,000-$220,000
At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
