This Sock and Textile Designer incorporates the brand vision, seasonal design themes and product line direction to design commercially compelling sock and knit accessories. Responsible for seasonally allocated cross-categorical textile design in socks, knit accessories, sweaters and fabrics.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the seasonal kickoff design process in the creation of trend, textile, and color stories.
- Utilize the SmartWool Brand ManuWool, Signature SmartWool work and seasonal briefs to design all socks and knit accessories that bring the SmartWool brand to life for consumers and that meet the business targets (sales/margin).
- Update the visual line plan tool.
- Work with design/PLM team to color, merchandise and finalize the line.
- Creation and timely hand off of Sock Design Tech Packs.
- Timely review of protos and accurate communication to development team.
- Participate in the seasonal calendar creation and process improvement.
- Project management and timely hand off of workbook illustrations.
- Facilitate design connectivity between categories with color/pattern work.
- Sales meeting support.
- Assist in the presentation materials at seasonal line reviews and sales meetings.
- Clearly articulate design inspirations, product features/ benefits and line direction.
- Travel to factories, trade shows, market trips, sales meetings, line reviews, and pre-lines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Multi-years experience with soft goods in all areas of the development process including: merchandising, design, sourcing and product development.
- 5-7 years textile/knit design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree design, textile or related apparel area preferred.
- High level of proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft office applications.
- Effective written, visual, and oral communications.
- Experience with jacquard pattern and hand knits.
- Knowledge of graphing knit patterns in CAD program a plus.
- Ability to travel.
