Come work with the most innovative cycling brand in the world. We are looking for a Lead Designer to work with the best talent in the industry. The Mountain Bike Team Associate Industrial Designer will support Mountain Bike product development for all manner of products in the category from frames, to helmets, components, and more. This designer will work collaboratively with a cross functional team of product managers, engineers, graphic designers, and outside vendors to create a line of mountain products that convey performance and the Specialized Brand. This designer will also take direction from Lead Designers and the Design Manager.
Located in the San Francisco Bay Area near the Santa Cruz Mountains, Specialized is more than just a bike company. We are a company filled with passionate cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts who are dedicated to creating innovative bikes and equipment for every kind of rider. HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
• Assist in Industrial Design efforts for the Mountain Bike Group.
• Assist and lead design efforts for equipment and accessories.
• Provide design and guidance for ID interns.
• Assist graphic direction for bikes and equipment.
• Drive and lead organization and execution of tech specification delivery to Equipment R&D.
• Construct models for appearance and function.
• Keep abreast of industrial design and graphic design trends.
• Frequent visits to bike shops and other sport related events.
EXPERIENCE:
• BFA or BSID from accredited Industrial Design program
• 0-4 years Corporate In-House or Consultancy, sporting goods or outdoor industry a plus
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Experience working with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team
• Working knowledge of branding and how to create products representative of their respective brand
• Created products that were appropriate for chosen market
• Experience working within the parameters of an ID working process
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• A passion for cycling, especially mountain biking
• Strong problem solving skills and analytical thinking
• Fundamental understanding of ergonomics and anthropometrics
• Research skills and ability to understand different markets and demographics
• Multi-tasking: Able to simultaneously balance several projects in varying levels of completeness
• Flexibility: Able to work on projects that may change scope or parameters and still meet deadlines
• Strong communication through sketching, rendering, ideation and verbal presentation skills
• ID Model shop skills: quick prototyping, sculpting, and finished appearance models
• Exposure to 3D modeling software such as Alias, Rhino, or Solidworks Pro/E preferred.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as forging, injection molding, and machining.
• Ability to generate product form language that conveys brand essence and is appropriate for specific cycling category
• Occasional International & Domestic travel required
