SPY’s Senior Marketing Manager must be an energetic and intuitive marketing strategist with exceptional leadership, writing and communication skills. The role has varied job responsibilities, but the top priority is driving to completion the goals and strategies laid out in the yearly Marketing Plan provided by the Marketing Director. It involves planning for product launches, campaigns, marketing asset generation, and managing all activities related to marketing department’s budgeting, advertising, retail and event marketing. Awareness of relevant market conditions and trends also a must. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and is based at our Carlsbad, California headquarters

BRAND MARKETING
• Creating and implementing innovative tactics and solutions to achieve strategic marketing goals as laid out in Marketing Plan
• Drive to completion key marketing initiatives and campaigns
• Work with Segment Managers, Marketing Manager and Social Media Specialist to drive each product launch to completion
• Work with Creative Director to ensure there is a constant flow of creative choices for all marketing materials
• Contribute creative copy, ideas and solutions for campaigns and marketing programs
• Work with Brand Content Manager to generate copy for all marketing asset needs
• Manage Marketing Manager in all related aspects to ensure tasks are being completed

BUDGETING AND EXPENSES
• Build and manage marketing department’s annual budget with direction, focuses, and support from Marketing Director
• Work with each Segment Manager to determine marketing budgets per each category
• Ensure budgetary adherence with support and partnership from Marketing Manager

TRADE SHOW AND SALES MEETING MANAGEMENT
• Direct and manage all planning for SPY trade shows and sales meetings
• Manage all contracts, booth planning and construction, drayage, catering, transportation, labor, etc
• Monitor and maintain all trade show and sales meeting budgets
• Manage arranging all lodging and sales related functions
• Facilitate and manage booth layout and creative execution with Creative Director, Marketing Director, and Sales Managers
• Identify and analyze new potential shows and their relevance to the business
• Utilize Marketing Manager to help support the overall execution of trade show or sales meetings

RETAIL MARKETING
• Develop an annual Retail Marketing Plan to be distributed internally. Retail Marketing Plan must support and be in accord with the directives laid out in the Marketing Plan (provided by the Marketing Director)
• Manage all retail marketing related budgets, with partnership and support from Marketing Manager
• Create and implement innovative tactics, methods and solutions to build brand awareness at retail
• Direct, manage and implement the Retail Marketing Plan strategy throughout SPY’s retail channels
• Collaborate with Sales Managers, Key Account Directors, and Reps to execute on strategies that are inspiring to our retailers and consumers
• Implement and facilitate all POS installs with in-house staff and external vendors, ensuring the Creative Department is delivering timely and inspired solutions
• When need arises, work with Marketing Manager to develop digital and social media assets to support key online retail partners
• Develop an annual Visual Merchandising Plan for inside SPY’s display cases.
• Develop POS solutions and strategies to support goals of marketed collections and styles as identified by Marketing Plan
• Direct and manage strategy for displays. Work with Creative Director on creative execution to meet needs of Retail Marketing Plan
• Build an annual Retail Marketing deck to be shared externally
• Continuous and comprehensive analysis of competitor activity and performance to benchmark SPY performance against industry players
• Utilize Marketing Manager and Brand Content Manager to support execution of marketing projects and tasks

SALES AND MARKETING MATERIALS
• Work with Creative Director on Project Management
• Direct and manage coordination of all in store point of sale and signage assets, including digital needs for online retailers
• Manage the calendar and delivery of all sales collateral materials including POS, Catalogs, sales decks, PK sheets, etc
• Work with Product Line Manager (PLM) to ensure all calendars are aligned between marketing, production, and sales.
• Oversee and manage approval of budgets for building marketing assets.

RETAIL ACTIVATION
• Direct SPY Retail and Event brand activations
• Direct SPY Brand Activation’s Team (BAT), which consists of three person national team: West, Southeast, and Northeast. Instill self management of team and upholding SPY standards for quality of work and activations
• Coordinate, facilitate and manage all retail and consumer related contests, which includes all designs, forms, venues, sponsors, prizes, promotional items, etc. Work with specific Segment Managers and Sales Managers to execute these promotions. Work with Web to ensure proper communications are happening around these. Maximize Activation!
• Work with sales team to develop and manage onsite events and activations at retailers and local events or races to support sales goals
• Work with marketing department and sales departments to identify demos and clinics to produce and manage throughout the year.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• 10 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience at a management level
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
• Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented department
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Must be detail oriented and extremely organized
• Ability to prioritize daily/weekly workload and responsibilities
• Expert knowledge of action sports culture and industry
