JOB OVERVIEW

The Manager, Product Development for Global Accessories is providing leadership to the Product Development function, in order to ensure a successful transition of Soft Goods product from the Design phase through development and into Production. Incumbent is expected to ensure that all necessary processes are identified, developed, sampled, and into finished product at the manufacturer.

The position requires a person to work as a leader and team member interfacing with both internal groups (e.g.: Sales Operations, Finance, Designers, Program Management, Supply Chain) and suppliers. Typical responsibilities which are within the scope of this position include: personnel development, review of design for manufacturability, supplier liaison, analysis of data, process implementation, aesthetics, quality, delivery schedule and target cost and margin objectives have been achieved. The accessory product lines includes golf bags, golf gloves, headwear, umbrellas, towels, and other accessory collections across corporate brands on a global basis. This position will have others as direct reports.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• In conjunction with Director, Global Soft Goods Operations, work with design concepts and briefs to finished products using knowledge of customer preferences, product functionality and materials characteristics.
• Working with Lead Product Designer, translate critical features and trends in working designs and tech packs for suppliers. Review and negotiate specific details during the sampling process related to design specifications.
• Lead the innovation pipeline for soft goods on all products, including components, fabrics and other area for all categories in Soft Goods.
• Maintain product development schedule, timelines. Work with Product Managers to support development of Line Plan.
• Attend various brand related exhibitions/seminars to support and identify Accessory development strategy.
• Manage product suppliers for each category establishing and enforcing criteria for design, manufacturing and delivery execution while working with the Engineering function to ensure quality standards are met.
• Visit accessories manufacturers to oversee sampling and request material, engineering, quality and timeline changes as needed to meet product line plans and customer satisfaction of finished product.
• Work with Design Ops functions and Marketing Director to ensure all related packaging, hang tags and sales materials are completed and that photo shoot samples are delivered on time for scheduled photo shoot.
• Act as technical lead and liaison between the internal groups (e.g.: Engineering, Product Designers, Supply Chain, and Program Management).
• Visit suppliers and give direct feedback on technical aspects of programs and processes
• Use technical expertise to identify solutions for problem-solving or improvement opportunities
• Provide input for the annual budget to plan the expenses for department(s) (wages, travel expenses, training, etc.) and capital expenditures as required.
• Develop goals and metrics in order to support key objectives and initiatives defined by leadership.
• Work with subordinates and peers to develop plans to achieve stated goals and objectives.

• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project)
• Skilled at solving complex problems and implementing solutions
• Excellent organizational and Project Management skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Thorough knowledge of golf accessories category technologies and general manufacturing principles.
• General knowledge of quality assurance methods.
• Solid knowledge of materials used in sporting goods products
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office and Illustrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in technical field or equivalent manufacturing of sporting goods/outdoor related products.
• Minimum 3 years of product design and/or development experience, preferably in accessories fields.
• Minimum of 4 years directly involved with Manufacturing, suppliers, new products and related projects/corrective action investigations.
• Experience with cut and sew manufacturing at the factory level.
