Senior Intellectual Property Paralegal
The Senior Intellectual Property Paralegal is responsible for maintaining and advancing their brands’ intellectual property portfolios and will work closely with with supervising attorneys, VF brand business teams and Legal Department colleagues to provide strategic oversight for VF brand intellectual property protection and enforcement worldwide.
How You Will Make a Difference:
! Collaborates with supervising attorney to develop and execute strategy for protection and enforcement of worldwide intellectual property rights including trademarks, copyrights, patents, domain names and licensing.
! Partners with brand teams to understand business objectives, protect brand identity, enforce intellectual property rights, and assess portfolio strengths, risks, and needs; prepares draft updates and summaries on strategic issues for business clients.
! Manages legal clearance for print and commercial advertisements, catalogs, and product development, partnering with supervising attorney and escalating as needed; actively monitors new and longstanding brand content for potential patent, trademark and copyright protection.
! Partners with Global Brand Enforcement team to investigate and counteract counterfeiting and infringement activities worldwide.
! Reviews invoices for legal services and assists in managing outside counsel.
! Works with supervising trademark attorney to support intellectual property training to brand teams.
! Educates self on emerging issues in intellectual property protection.
! Investigates third parties in dispute matters and provides recommendations on overcoming; assists in managing outside counsel for disputes; coordinates business witnesses, evidence collection, and affidavits as needed to support dispute matters.
! Drafts intercompany licenses; arranges for execution of licenses; manages license recordation in foreign jurisdictions.
! Train and collaborate with junior paralegals and assistants as needed.
! Coordinates meetings and conducts other legal and administrative tasks that may be required from time to time.
Skills for Success:
! 5+ years of experience in a law firm or law department; a mix of corporate and law firm experience preferred
! Bachelor’s degree; paralegal certificate preferred
! Comprehensive knowledge of intellectual property and brand protection
! Knowledge of Diams iQ or similar file management portal
! Knowledge of Saegis or similar trademark search and watch database
! Ability to assess legal risk and escalate appropriately
! Excellent written and oral communication skills
! Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
! Desire to learn and develop new skills
! Proficient in Microsoft Office
! Proactive with a strong work ethic, propensity to learn and sense of pride and accountability in work
! Ability to anticipate needs and respond to changing demands
! Capacity to develop and maintain effective, professional relationships amongst internal and external stakeholders
