POSITION: MTB Product Engineer
REPORTS TO: Manager of MTB Engineering
SUMMARY: Primarily responsible for providing complete engineering design & drawings for the creation and production of proprietary frames, hard goods, forks or any bicycle related product(s). Performs responsibilities and duties with a limited amount of guidance. Assists with the coordination of production by working closely with vendors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinates with Product Management, Product Development, and Industrial Design, for the drawings of proprietary Specialized bicycle, frame and frame related product(s) and components. Suggests design and style that best supports the product objective(s) to the cross-functional team.
· Produces drawings using computer assisted software.
· Provides guidance, direction, and helps facilitate the initial production and delivery of product.
· Provides complete engineering drawings to the manufacturer for bicycle frames and components under the direction of the Engineering Director.
· Reviews any counter manufacturing drawings for accuracy and product compatibility.
2. Creates and develops all product documentation, drawings, and factory correspondence in accordance with guidelines and instructions provided by both the Product Manager and Engineering Director.
· Maintains in an orderly fashion all standard vendor product information with limited direction from supervisor.
· Adheres to time lines with milestones developed by cross-functional development teams.
· Perform first line of review for accurate production drawings for manufacturing of designs.
3. Works closely with the Testing Department to ensure that safety and quality control standards have been developed and adhered to for the proprietary bicycle, frame and frame parts being produced
· Arranges for product testing to meet production and manufacturing time-line.
· Supports quality control efforts to maintain product quality during the production cycle.
4. Works closely with the suppliers’ engineering department to develop and maintain comprehensive and accurate manufacturing drawings for all proprietary bicycle, frame and frame parts being produced.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Requires a minimum of two years experience in a manufacturing or engineering company. Experience must demonstrate the ability to draw and implement imaginative designs, and successful management of multiple projects simultaneously.
2. Prefer one year experience in bicycle or a recreation-related industry.
3. Prefer experience in Asian manufacturing and sourcing.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
1. Prefer four-year college degree or equivalent accredited Engineering School Certificate. Course work should include CAD design and industrial engineering based classes. Engineering course work can be substituted by demonstrating advanced knowledge of CAD software and related equipment.
2. Requires advanced knowledge Auto-Cad, Pro-Engineering, or similar Engineering design software.
3. Requires Microsoft Excel and Word software skills.
4. Requires ability to use welding and one-off machined tools.
5. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with in-house staff, vendors and foreign contacts.
6. Ability to identify and solve hardware/software and inter-related computer equipment problems effectively.
7. Machine shop ability: able to machine or weld one off parts.
8. Ability to assemble bicycles and bicycle parts.
9. Ability to solve problems on the spot.
10. Capable of performing job responsibilities with limited supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Moderate travel required.
2. Extensive computer terminal work.
3. Workweek may include Saturdays and Sundays. Alternate days off should be scheduled in advance.
4. Frame fabrication facilities are hot and could be dangerous. (Safety precautions must be adhered to.)
