POSITION TITLE: Product Line Manager – Brand Builders
BUSINESS AREA: Apparel Category
LOCATION: Portland
REPORTS TO: Director of Gear
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As the brand builder product manager, you will provide leadership and functional excellence in the development of the merchandising strategy and execution for the Amer Sports portfolio. You will collaborate with the brand merchandiser to ensure optimal range, product assortments, margin requirements, and financial goals are met. As a key member of the team, you will assist in strategic planning and make recommendations to senior leadership that can drive authentic stories within the Amer Sports portfolio.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Develop and maintain a three-year global product roadmap and planning documentation for seasonal product revisions and launches
• Understand and drive actions supporting the financial expectations of the category: margins, product cost, sales turn, range positioning or specifics impacting
• Nurture, guide, and challenge cross functional departments and factories to ensure product excellence in the marketplace (design, fabrics, costing, fit)
• Partner with brands to determine category/product segmentation optimizing both resource and scale opportunities in order to help develop ideal merchandising plans by channel, account, and suggested on floor presence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Provide leadership for creative concept development and product innovation to deliver product that inspires athletes and enthusiasts
• Analyze the athletic and outdoor consumer, sales data, and market progression in order to recommend products for adoption into the brands
• Work with sourcing and development teams to identify the right resources for the category needs by driving forecasts and flow charts that support supply chain solutions (local, regional, and global)
• Ensure that the creative direction and brand DNA is consistently reflected in the product and positioned appropriately with robust go-to-market brand strategies
• Work with the Brand contact to ensure that key product developments are being communicated internally and externally to the market
• Identify category growth opportunities for brands and new market product potential based off market research and knowledge.
• Perform ongoing SKU rationalization and manage product end of life cycle
• Support brands with photo shoots, sell-in tools, and sales plans
DESIRED WORKING EXPERIENCE:
• 3-5+ years in product management or retail buying experience preferably in outdoor or athletic industry.
• Experience in base layer, graphic tees, or core fundamentals preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of apparel product design, development, and commercialization process, preferably with performance apparel and sportswear
• Experience in global cross functional work environment interacting, influencing, and managing across virtual teams.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, or Marketing preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIREMENT:
Ms Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, PLM system, and Adobe Illustrator.
MAIN JOB COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong analytical ability with added knowledge of budgeting, brand management, strategic planning, and business development
• Proven ability to understand consumers & global markets in order to translate those needs into product and business strategies
• Self-motivated with a results-oriented approach to work
• Strong conceptual and creative problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with global cross-functional teams/ matrix environment
• Must be comfortable in a fluid and evolving organization with a highly collaborative work style
• Ability to travel up to 25% including regular trips to Amer Sports Brands located in Chicago, Vancouver, Annecy, France Asia, and other locations as needed.
