ESPN.com senior news editors are the day-to-day front-line managers for ESPN.com’s news product. They manage both people and process.

From a news point of view, they are in charge of setting the day’s assignments, prioritizing the day’s news, and making sure the information being presented is timely and accurate. They are the main liaison to the ESPN TV news desk, ESPN.com’s video team, research departments and other groups looking for information. They are also the primary contact for writers in the field first with news tips and questions. They read copy, sign off on major breaking stories, and work to hone the news presentation on the website (as well as creating content for other platforms), focusing on our Page 1 news stack and offerings, as well as major sport page news presentation.

They also have direct reports and are in charge of assigned general, associate and assistant editors. They perform job reviews and work regularly to manage career growth for their direct reports.

Basic Qualifications
• Excellent people management skills.
• The ability to work in a rapidly changing online environment.
• Ability to create and tell stories in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment.
• Good judgment in prioritizing and selecting online content from a variety of sources for both local and national audiences.
• Solid understanding and appreciation of news and story play.
• Excellent headline writing skills.
• An understanding of search engine optimization.
• Have a background or quickly become competent in HTML.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of 7 years experience for traditional or new media.
• Previous management experience is a plus.

Preferred Education
• A BS/BA degree in communication arts, journalism or new media or equivalent combination of education experience.
