We are looking for someone with experience designing a progressive, fun,
action sports aesthetic.
This position is full-time, in-house, in Hood River. A minimum of two
years professional studio experience, after graduation with a Design
Degree, is required.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
// PROJECT WORK
• Print based role
• Equal amount of production work versus creation of original concepts
• Ability to create complex, progressive, relevant compositions using
product, action and lifestyle photography
• Ability to work very quickly, while creating high quality designs with
attention to detail that exceed expectation
• Ability to design in a myriad of styles, and combine and customize
styles to make them unique
• Confident achieving regular business critical deadlines and working
under pressure
• Strong organizational and planning skills needed to ensure completion
of complex projects in agreed time
• Required to complete projects from written and verbal briefings
• Required to learn all of DAKINE’s specialized markets and how the
brand is tailored to each market
• Ability to understand brand qualities and company goals and
communicate those visually
• Ability to express yourself and your work eloquently and concisely,
both verbally and via email
• Ability to handle mistakes maturely, recover quickly and learn from
them
• Genuine listening skills and lots of patience required
• Expected to understand the difference between decoration and
communication and design accordingly
• Expected to create organized, efficient design templates for other staff
and freelancers to work from
• Ability to color correct / re-touch product, action and lifestyle
photography
• Strong typographic skills required
• Technical illustration work required

• Provide a high level of quality customer service [ courteous and
positive communication and actions with project contacts ]
• Provide general support for other department team members [
computer, production and deadline support ]
• Provide inspiration for other team members [ visual, motivation and

Department staff

• Develop and expand your skills as a professional graphic designer
• Follow advances in technology and software that are necessary to stay
current in a modern Graphic Design studio

• In-depth Mac knowledge essential basic PC operation required
• In-depth knowledge of the latest Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design
essential
• Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
• Web knowledge considered a plus [ web site design and maintenance,
HTML / JS, Flash ]
// PRINT PROCESS KNOWLEDGE
• CMYK and PMS / spot color knowledge required
• Pre-press / file preparation knowledge required

Projects the Designer will be expected to work on are: Magazine Ad
Campaigns, Product Catalogs, Product Packaging, Tradeshow Graphics,
Point of Purchase Materials, Marketing Support Materials, Product Styling,
Fabric Colors and Patterns, Logos, Icons and Font Development,
Corporate Literature, Web Site’s (front-end), Product and Lifestyle Photo
Shoots, Product Photo and Color-way CD’s and Graphic Archiving.

DAKINE MARKET KNOWLEDGE
DAKINE lives in several different action sports markets – Surf, Snowboard,
Ski, Skate, Windsurf, Kite, Bike – and also creates packs and bags for the
Girls Lifestyle market. [ The staff at DAKINE are passionately involved
in these sports in their personal time - and for their job. We have found
this to be essential in creating quality products and relevant graphic
design projects. ]

DEPARTMENT STRUCTURE
DAKINE’s in-house Graphics Department currently consists of an Art
Director, Senior Designer and two Designers. We are also hiring another
Senior Designer at this time to create a team of six. The team has
doubled in size in the past two years, and is expected to expand as the
product range and overall company continue to grow.
