Sport Chalet is looking for a General Manager-in-Training to join the team at their Mission Valley, CA location (San Diego Area).

Position Summary:
While assisting the General Manager in a leadership role, the General Manager-in-Training assumes a blended leadership role of both operations and merchandising while leading a team to accomplish strategic objectives and overall sales goals. In this role, the successful General Manager-in-Training will be an effective communicator with a motivational and persuasive personality, have a thorough understanding of retail sales techniques and thrive in a fast-paced, customer centric environment. Having previous experience as a General Manager in specialty retail or as an Assistant Manager for a large retailer will allow an easy transition into understanding all aspects of the business to ensure that focus remains on key business initiatives, store presentation, marketing execution and daily operational cost controls.

The GMIT is a senior-level store management (GENERAL STORE MANAGER) position which reports directly to the Training General Manager and the District Manager. Developmental success in this role will lead into a General Manager position.

Responsibilities:
• Facilitate, Promote, and Supervise all aspects of customer service
• Lead by example while driving overall store performance
• Motivate team to strive to attain daily, weekly and monthly sales and operational goals
• Recruit, train and supervise sales and support staff
• Create a plan of succession for current staff members
• Ensure Operating Procedures are effectively implemented at all levels
• Achieve sales and labor goals via effective schedule writing
• Oversee general merchandising and store operations
• Partner with visual team in regards to merchandise presentation
• Act as liaison to corporate supervisors staff

Skills / Requirements:
A varied schedule will include day, evening, and weekend shifts.
• Prefer 2 - 5 years of high volume retail management experience 1 year as a General Manager
• Prefer college degree
• Able to perform in a customer service intensive environment
• Ability to suggestively sell and be persuasive coach others to maximize overall sales
• Strong business acumen and sales ability
• Ability to enable management and develop staff Team Player
• Strong communication, inter-personal and people skills
• Basic understanding of P&L components
• Merchandising skills in both hardlines and softlines a plus
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Organized, resourceful and driven to satisfy customers
