My name is Alan Oakes. I am a conceptual, multidisciplinary designer and textile architect. Born and raised in Vail, Colorado.

A trained architect, I obtained a BA in Architecture [minor in Art History] and studied Sustainable Design in Copenhagen, Denmark. Graduating in 2014 from the MFA 'Fashion Design and Society' at Parsons The New School for Design in New York.

The foundation of my design philosophies challenge the modern function of objects in all design systems. 

4-5 yrs. experience within fashion [w/ a concentration on technical knit development]. Previously, I designed all technical Evening/Couture knitted textiles and fully-fashioned knitwear for American knit company ST JOHN. Additionally, I have worked with Brunello Cucinelli in Italy, The Row in New York and consulted for Kanye West's YEEZY collection in Los Angeles.

_designed knitted textiles [fully fashioned & cut/sew] while working daily with in-house Stoll/Shima Seiki knit programmers, technicians and custom yarn mills to achieve knitted textiles for luxury label ST JOHN. personally oversaw all new developments for Evening/Couture and Outlet collections. managed and archived all new developments within the company's extensive knit library.

_aided the creative and academic research process to support the efforts of the MFA 'Fashion Design and Society' Associate Professor and his tenure objective within the University.

_aided the conception, research/development and technical achievement of both the Resort and Spring 2014 Ready-to-wear collections. designed and communicated in-house stitches, toiles and final technical packs for samples. 

Knitwear Design Intern

_collected, managed and exhibited architectural drawings and models, designed objects and graphics for both the museum's private and lent collections.

_Individual stylist for Women's Collection and Advanced Modern departments.
