Team Cagiva
Owner | 08/2012 - Current
For the past three years I have run my own small business specializing in parts and accessories for Italian Cagiva and Husqvarna motorcycles. My lease was up at the end of July 2015 so I am exploring my options.
Motorcyclist magazine
Editor in Chief | 07/2005 - 07/2012
As Editor in Chief of Motorcyclist magazine, I oversaw all editorial and creative aspects of the world's oldest and second largest-circulation motorcycle magazine. I managed a staff of full-time and freelance journalists, photographers and videographers, plus a managing editor, online editor, copy editor and art director. In 2012, as Motorcyclist celebrated its 100th anniversary, I oversaw a year's worth of special commemorative issues and hosted our centennial celebration wherein we named the Motorcycle and Motorcyclist of the Century.
Cycle World magazine
Executive Editor | 07/1995 - 07/2005
As Executive Editor of Cycle World magazine, I was the Editor in Chief's right-hand man in overseeing all editorial and creative aspects of the world's largest-circulation motorcycle magazine. I not only wrote but also coordinated countless comparison tests of street and dirt bikes, including weighing and measuring, dyno testing, quarter-mile and top-speed testing, studio, static, action and video photo shoots, procuring test riders/photo models, arranging apparel, travel, hotel rooms, meals and racetrack rentals as required.
American Roadracing magazine
Editor | 08/1992 - 07/1995
As Editor of American Roadracing magazine, I oversaw all editorial and creative aspects of the country's leading publication focused on motorcycle roadracing. I traveled to and reported on all series rounds of the AMA Superbike Championship, plus the occasional World Superbike or Grand Prix event, and also attended racetrack intros of many new-model sportbikes. It bears mention here that I have held AMA Pro Racing licenses in both roadracing and supermoto, and have been trusted to test numerous professional racebikes from AMA Grand National Dirt-Trackers up to and including the multi-million-dollar MotoGP roadrace machines.
Cycle World magazine
Managing Editor | 11/1990 - 08/1992
In my first stint at Cycle World magazine I was rapidly promoted from Associate Editor to Managing Editor, before accompanying outgoing Publisher Jim Hansen to American Roadracing magazine.
Cycle News
Associate Editor | 02/1988 - 11/1990
Like many in my career field, I got my start at the so-called "Clayton College of Motorcycle Journalism." During my tenure at Cycle News, I traveled to and reported on all series rounds of the AMA Superbike Championship, plus the occasional World Superbike, MotoGP, Dirt Track and even Supercross/Motocross event. I also did the lion's share of sportbike testing and participated in motocross, enduro and dual-sport comparisons. On top of all that, I helped Editor Paul Carruthers produce two bi-monthly magazines: Motorcycle Road Racer Illustrated and Personal Watercraft Illustrated.
