River Linguistics was launched as a bootstrap startup and in the first year of operations, we met / exceeded industry average revenue for established language service providers of similar size. We also obtained HUBZone, 8(a), and EDWOSB certifications for doing business with public sector entities and their respective contractors. In addition to managing Sales & Marketing (including ownership of social media, digital/print advertising campaigns, analytics & reporting, etc.), I managed a combination of on-shore/off-shore software development teams (both for River Linguistics and as a consultant to larger companies in our industry). My ability to communicate laterally and vertically allowed me to effectively engage and influence stakeholders throughout all phases of development, ranging from account managers, product managers, sales executives, marketing managers, end users – all the way to C-level executives.

Filling a primarily sales-focused role, I increased US sales figures by an average of 186%, month on month (highest monthly increase 331%). During this time, I also closed the largest single sale in the company’s history. Responsible for establishing and expanding Straker’s presence in the North American market, I consulted with Straker’s leadership on matters ranging from US business culture, physical office set up, local tax and legal compliance, marketing strategy, as well as human and technology infrastructure requirements.

Duties also included writing job descriptions, interviewing prospective candidates, establishing quantifiable KPIs, employee goals & development roadmaps, establishing budgets and enforcing budget adherence, along with conducting quarterly reviews.
