Director of Strategic Initiatives
Responsible for executing on strategic projects as determined by the Board such as developing a new sales channel and overseeing the management and development of a recently acquired bicycle brand. Both initiatives include line-item accountability and the necessity to pull resources together from inside and outside of the company.
Accomplishments
• Signed two large national accounts within first 90 days
• Established EDI capability
• Introduced two new bicycle models within the first 8 months following acquisition of the brand.
• Created dealer programs for the US and Canada designed to penetrate new markets and to grow market share.
• Established working procedures with bicycle factories to maximize flexibility and inventory turns.
• Spearheaded marketing efforts – catalogs, photo shoots, POP materials, etc. designed to increase brand awareness and sell-through on the retail floor.
• Developed a five year plan for opening new distribution centers in the US and Canada as well as the inventory strategy for each DC.
Chief Financial Officer
Selected by Board to serve as CFO to provide financial and strategic guidance to the company during a period of tremendous growth. Over a four year period the responsibilities included managing the Financial Reporting, Credit, A/P, and Customer Service teams.
Accomplishments
• Headed the efforts to bring new investors into the business to help finance future expansion efforts.
• Developed a monthly reporting package for the Board, bank and management that provided quick and comprehensive access to critical performance metrics. The bank claimed it was the best package of any company in their ABL group.
• Managed the annual budgeting process including working with all stakeholders to accurately forecast revenues and expenses across all categories. Presented to and obtained budget approval from the Board each year.
• Secured financing (short term and long term) necessary to achieve company’s operating and strategic plans. This included asset-based credit line, loans, and capital infusions from shareholders.
• Received unqualified opinion letters on every audit from the public accounting firm and the bank’s audit team.
• Negotiated the acquisition of a US subsidiary of a key vendor.
US Brand Manager – Storck Bicycle and LOOK Cycle
While simultaneously serving as CFO, was responsible for the US sales, marketing, and operations of Storck Bicycle and LOOK Cycle, two premier European brands.
Accomplishments
• Launched Storck Bicycle nationally in the US. This included designing the sales programs, training the sales team, creating technical training for dealers, designing consumer ads, working with magazines on technical reviews, trade shows, sourcing product, managing the dealer network, overseeing the race team, and managing the national demo tour.
• Managed the transition from LOOK Cycle’s US subsidiary to Hawley for full distribution of pedals and bikes. This included negotiating pricing from vendor, performing competitive analysis of product lines, designing sales programs, managing Interbike and Dirt Demo, overseeing the dealer network, and supervising the online channel.
Project Manager
Leadership position on teams tasked with special assignments which are critical to the success and future growth of the company.
Accomplishments
• Wrote the business cases for additional US distribution centers and led the project implementation teams.
• Worked with IT consultants and team to design and implement Hawley’s custom labeling program for dealers.
• Worked with POS software providers to integrate Hawley into their platforms so dealers could access Hawley’s web store through EDI.
• Collaborated with team members to design freight allowance and loyalty programs.
• Teamed with attorneys to write Hawley’s MAP and internet sales policies.
• Led effort to utilize courier service to reduce ground transit time to key area of the country by 1 full day.
• Partnered with Hawley’s Purchasing team to design an open-to-buy system that aligned with the budget to improve turns and cash flow.
