To me, design has always been about physical reaction. It’s that subsequent feeling you get when you encounter something that is so impactful, your gut clenches and your pupils dilate from enjoyment, apprehension, or even repulsion. I distinctively remember when I was 8 years old, observing an album cover that I spotted from the corner of my eye at a local bookstore.

I don’t recall what album it was (though I seriously wish I did) but that uncanny yet colorful sensation in my stomach is a feeling I will never forget. The cover overflowed with garish colors that were oddly stimulating. The glitter finish over the title was out of this world. The illustrations of what seemed like tiny incandescent creepy-crawlies made my mind spin with fascination. These emotions were something I’d never experienced before.

Of course, when you’re 8 years old you don’t really experience much, but the feeling was there and that’s what I’ve prized. That intangible feeling is what’s driven me to wet someone’s design appetite. I want my work to have a conversation with the viewer’s body and somatic senses. Pushing the boundaries and being different is obviously something I live by but most importantly, I want to evoke emotion that will resonate with someone for ages to come, just like that 8 year old boy browsing a bookstore, looking for any magazine with Hilary Duff on it.
