Part and system design

Mechanical engineer with experience developing a variety of lab equipment (vacuum chamber, wind tunnel, equipment fixtures), aerospace airborne and ground based systems, and other various mechanisms and fixtures. Also well versed in computer and network administration and a bit of programming and web development.

* Designed new composite honeycomb plates and payload doors as well as molded mounting hardware for tail fin which would increase stiffness and decrease weight
* Revised models and drawings in Solid Edge for newly requested features on a variety of payload components

* Updated hydraulic component configurations and system drawings for landing gear systems as well as interacting with vendors to configure custom components
* Utilized Solidworks to Design, modify and update CAD models and drawings for landing gear mechanisms and components

Mechanical Engineer

* Utilized Solid Edge to create a custom fiberglass radome design for a payload radar and EO/IR camera as well as a  carbon fiber/honeycomb mount plate for payload radar equipment
* Developed an airborne payload for the GNSS aerostat and custom designed aluminum components and sheet metal enclosures for airborne power and data LRUs
* Designed a custom scissor lift cart for assembly, maintenance and installation of 1000 lb. aerostat payload
* Collaborated with a variety of other engineering team members and operations team members to review and modify designs as needed to accomplish project goals
* Utilized FEA to check component design and reduce component weight
* Designed a towable rotating flight and landing structure for the GNSS aerostat that would withstand 45,000 lb. flight loads

· Designed a variety of components for scientific instruments and systems
· Utilized SolidWorks Flow Simulation to increase conversion efficiency by 6% on the AQD NO2
Converter
· Performed iterative fluid flow simulations on components, instrumentation and system designs
to achieve required performance criteria or improve existing instrument performance
· Performed stress/strain analysis on system components to guide the design and achieve
operational goals
· Constructed and/or modified a number of systems for clients such as Brookhaven National
Laboratories and the United States Air Force
· Implemented and maintained Solidworks Workgroup PDM system

Engineer

· Designed and constructed a 30’ closed-path wind tunnel for product development and testing
· Engineered a vacuum chamber and sensor system for simulating high altitude pressure
conditions and atmospheric gas concentrations
· Developed a launch release mechanism for the AOS Unmanned Aerial Vehicle launch apparatus
· Created 3D models and drawings in SolidWorks for new and existing equipment and parts
· Utilized Matlab, IGOR and Labview to record and analyze experiment data.
