Trip Expert, Operations Expert, and Tour Leader

My education and first 11 years of work was geared towards the goal of working in zoo conservation. I dedicated my life to gaining as much knowledge and experience in the field as possible. I worked on conservation programs, continued my professional growth through work exchanges and conferences. I loved every minute of it and had a tremendous amount of passion for the work. 

Five years ago I applied to become a Tour Leader with Backroads Inc with the hopes of experiencing the natural world first hand. I also hoped to take my passion for conservation and transmit this to our clients in the field. This all came true as I have lead in incredible regions having the opportunity to share my passion for nature and wildlife conservation with thousands of guests. Regions I have lead in include Spain, Cuba, Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Galapagos, Costa Rica, and the USA. 

My time at Backroads Inc has opened doors for me I never knew existed. I have been able to share my passion all while gaining valuable skills in negotiation, relationship building, problem solving, emergency management, quality control, and customer service. My role at Backroads has taught me valuable hard and soft skills that have mad me a very dynamic individual. 

Tour Leader, Operations Expert, and Trip Expert 
• Successfully leading Multi-Adventure, Hiking, and Cycling Groups through a variety of countries around the world. Including, Cuba, Costa Rica, Peru, Spain, Ecuador, and USA
• Maintained a complex role managing trip development and quality, client experience, and contractor relationships
• Responsibilities include, managing budget accountability, emergency management, and trip logistics, all while delivering the highest standard of trip quality 
• Managing, maintaining, and building relationships with subcontractors, hotels, and restaurants in various regions with tact and professionalism
• Manage all logistical and equipment needs for both Florida and Cuba itineraries. Bicycle inventory and maintenance, vehicle maintenance, all relevant equipment needs for trip implementation 
• Ability to exhibit great composure, skill, flexibility, and humor in a multi-faceted and highly demanding role

• Proficient in all areas of the Bird Department gaining extensive experience with the captive husbandry and management of birds from many genre
• Point person for department volunteers, responsibilities including orientation for incoming volunteers, training, and scheduling 
• Point person for department in absence of supervisors and curator 
• Monitoring daily and seasonal changes in dietary needs of collection and adjusting accordingly
• Involved in animal encounters and presentations, including off site programs and television appearances
• Presented at AAZK Passerine Workshop 2010 at Zoo Atlanta
• Attended EAZA course, Captive Breeding and Conservation Husbandry of Birds at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust
