This best sums up the highlights of what the Mar/Comm team did at UP: http://socialmediaforcolleges.com/blog/2014/5/10/a-fond-farewell-to-a-colleague-and-friend Prepare (scripting, producing, shooting and editing) a wide variety of professional videos (from tv commercials to web videos) and photography (from studio to events) to supplement the work of the PR team in Marketing/Communications on tight and variable deadlines, often managing multiple projects at once • Prepare timely multimedia packages for up.edu and other applications highlighting specific University of Portland departments and activities • Attend and participate in project goal setting, creative planning meetings and project-related coordination meetings to understand the purpose, concept and requirements of upcoming multimedia projects • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to create shot-lists and other strategies for upcoming video and photo shoots to achieve the necessary quality • Conduct post-production video and image editing, and prepares files for cataloging • Prepare graphic titles and music for videos • Prepare multimedia slideshows for various events • Post videos and photos to the University’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, www.up.edu and other social media • Stay current with the latest technologies in photography and editing software in order to suggest and provide expert advice with regard to new hardware and software acquisition

- Helped lead the design of the 2006 JDC program, a 28 day student media language/culture program involving 8 Americans and 8 Japanese high school students making short dual-language films all over Japan. - Webmaster and Graphic Designer for promotional materials and websites. (The JDC and the KyoEx online program were made private ventures in 2007) Kyoei Exchange (KyoEx) Online Program - Lead director of all technical, curricular and design aspects of the KyoEx Online program from the ground up. - KyoEx Online is an innovative and unique peer-to-peer online language and cultural exchange community and competition for high school students of Japanese and English.

The Peace Boat is a Japan-based international non-governmental and non-profit organization that works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment. They seek to create awareness and action based on effecting positive social and political change in the world. We pursue this through the organization of global educational programmes, responsible travel, cooperative projects and advocacy activities. I was a volunteer EFL teacher onboard. I also organized and facilitated a photography club onboard as well as provided photographs for the voyage's online newsletter. http://www.peaceboat.org/english/voyg/48/

• ¨Taught¨ public elementary and middle school EFL classes. Taught is in quotes because well, i was 21 years old teaching 60 kids in a classroom made for 30, with no text books, no chalk board, no toilets, no pencils, no paper,..you get the idea...and kids that had been up since pre-dawn working to fetch water and do other chores, belly´s empty, no shoes, wondering: ¨What exactly am I going to use English for in this small village on a remote West African island that doesn´t even have 11th or 12th grade available?" All I can say is, "I don't know, but I tried, dammit, I tried." • Tutored students after school at the local library. • Organized a book drive in the U.S. to acquire badly needed English language resources for the local library, SOS Orphanage and public school (books, textbooks, maps and magazines) by utilizing the US ambassador´s diplomatic pouch without his knowledge. I eventually had the honor of meeting him when I was summoned to his office to be reprimanded when he found out I used it to send myself 400 some pounds of books (that they use to send themselves all kinds of comfort food, products, god knows what). Highlight of my service. - Became very very familiar with Giardia about once a month, which didn't kill me, but the emergency appendectomy very nearly did about 10 months into my service. Attained a good quote while doubled over on a gurney in a hallway packed with other sick people in an overcrowded, under-resourced West African hospital when I asked, "Could you medi-vac me to the US or Senegal?" The Egyptian doctor replied, "No, you will die on the plane." After a couple months recovery (there were some complications) I early terminated my PC adventure after I realized my job was largely for show. I suggested to HQ that I was taking a local job and we transition to teaching unemployed men/women in my village that spoke English how to teach. They were not impressed with the idea, I was not impressed with them, and so I decided to part ways.

Certified through Number One's 120 hr. TEFL training for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes. Taught a bunch of awesome kids and adults English slang and curse words in itaúna and Para de Minas.
