John Roderick | Reel

For two decades, director+cinematographer John Roderick has crafted character driven stories and eye opening imagery of some of today’s most celebrated sports athletes, celebrities, musicians and popular brands alike.

John’s kinetic and improvised approach to storytelling, light and camera movement are signature to his eclectic upbringing between Maine, San Francisco and Europe. Today his creative work bridges live-action campaigns, branded content, television promos, documentary films, and a number of unscripted television series often shot in remote locations across the globe.

John’s formative influences began in the late 1990’s following 15x years of documenting the highest echelon of action sports for then emerging brands such as Oakley, Red Bull Media House, and Outside TV, along with producing a multitude of music videos and films for musician and social activist Michael Franti of Michael Franti & Spearhead.

Obermeyer

There’s an ever increasing demand for brands to populate the multitude of digital channels with content that not only parallels the values of the brand but stimulate real engagement. In this case study we look at Obermeyer, a 70 year old outdoor and ski apparel company based in Aspen, Colorado who wanted to introduce their first video campaign that raised brand awareness in the outdoor and winter sports space, as well as meet the many vendors multilevel advertising opportunities within cable, OTT, website display banners, paid social and content to rotate on in-store displays. 

Expedition Series

Spawned from a passion to create unscripted travel television series, Neu Productions John Roderick and Pat Parnell created an adventure series from the ground up titled “Expedition Series”. 

The ongoing series uncovers global destinations and unique local personalities that shape today’s leading boutique hotels, epicurean experiences and adventure activities. Host Pat Parnell elevates a new world of travel by bringing us closer to the people, places, and things that define a one-of-a-kind getaway. The quest for aesthetic lodging, bold favors, perfectly paired wines and adventure activities that ignite the soul all shape the journey that is “Expedition Series”. 

Neu Productions write, producer, shoot and craft each unique episode. Current series episodes include: Iceland, Chile, Namibia, New Zealand.

Outside Television

Outside Television is a sports-oriented cable and satellite television network based on Outside magazine and the critically acclaimed brand. Outside Television is the only programming network dedicated to the active adventure lifestyle in the United States with over 30 million viewers annually. 

Since 2012, Neu Productions, director, cinematographer John Roderick and creative producer, host Pat Parnell have served as a pivotal creative partner that helped shape the growth of Outside Television by crafting shows such as “Expedition Series”, “Outlook, Icons Revealed”, “Dispatches” and “Branded”. From original concept through to post production, Neu Productions has undoubtedly helped lay the networks foundation in the active lifestyle category.

Jake Burton Carpenter

Follow Outlook host Pat Parnell as he heads to the rolling hills of Vermont to unfold snowboarding pioneer and true agent of change, Jake Burton Carpenter. For over three decades Burton Snowboards have lead an evolution of culture and snowboard technology that has amplified snow sports. Today Jake Burton has come full circle through building a pinnacle brand, overcoming personal illness and infectiously encouraging the next chapter of snowboardings history.  

The series, “Outlook” is an in-depth interview series profiling athletes, journalists, musicians and leaders in the Outside World who have impacted the industry in a meaningful way. “OUTlook” provides the viewer incredible footage from the around the world and first hand accounts from the people and places where Outside Action happens. Each episode describes the unique landscape that is true to the person that is being profiled.
