Role Description:
As a student entrepreneur selected to participate in this competitive 8-week student idea accelerator program, I designed and created a multipurpose hammock. My partner and I worked in a cohort of entrepreneurs, and were responsible for developing our product from early-stage ideation through iterative prototyping
Major responsibilities:
- Assess customer needs through surveys and interviews to guide design process
- Pitch to entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley
- Take lead as founder of the concept to direct, organize, and manage my team
- Make and test prototypes (material selection, dimensions, ease of use, desirable features)
- Connect with manufacturers for feasibility and specifications for production
- Collaborate with and receive direct feedback from Product Development Manager at NEMO Equipment
- Attend annual Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, UT
- Present product and summer’s work in a final “Demo Day”
Osa Conservation
Forest Intern | 05/2016 - 08/2016
Role Description:
The Osa Conservation is a non-profit organization on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. As an intern for the Forestry Program, I worked with the maintenance and tracking of native tree species that have been planted in an effort to promote the establishment of secondary forest, as well as worked to enhance the forest data, extrapolate trends and correlations, and develop recommendations for Costa Rican Forest Engineers. These recommended techniques and practices will most effectively aid in the regrowth of Costa Rica’s natural forests.
Major Responsibilities:
- Identified tree species, record and track the growth and mortality rates, and update database with information on health, regeneration, reseeding, mortality, etc.
- Navigated difficult forest terrain by GPS
- Communicated in Spanish with Forest Engineers
- Built a biodigester at the University of Georgia in Costa Rica
- Presented findings and overall experience to Lehigh University in formal poster sessions
