The paintball company is not yet started.  My partner and I were asked by a gentleman in Denver wanting to start an indoor paintball arena.  He wanted something to set his company apart from any other in the area.  He asked us to develop a "bomb" that would be used inside the arena.  The bomb would have to be defused under a certain time limit for the diffusing team to win.  The other team was simply trying to keep the "bomb" safe and eliminate the other team.  

The way the bomb is diffused is by the following:
- Locate "bomb"
- Enter in the correct code into a keypad.  
     - Each time a correct number was input in the keypad, a blue LED would turn on
          - This would help the player know if they are pressing the correct numbers
     - Each time an incorrect number was input in the keypad, a red LED would turn on
- A door would open via a stepper motor once the correct 4-digit code was input in the keypad
- The opened door would expose a set of 5 wires

Paintball "Bomb" Designer

The problem that I and three others decided to study was the effect of humidity on the coefficient of restitution of a baseball.  We tested this phenomenon by having five different humidity levels.  Two humidity levels were lower than normal (our control) and two were higher than normal.  To reach these humidity levels was to place the balls in separate containers.  Each container had either rice (to drop the humidity level) or wet sponges (to raise the humidity levels) or a combination of the two.  Two baseballs (new) were placed in each container (10 total baseballs)  To test the coefficient of restitution of the baseballs we set up a pitching machine to shoot the baseballs at a strike plate (ASTM standard of testing the coefficient of restitution of a baseball/softball).  We used a high-speed camera to see the initial velocity of the incoming baseball (before the impact on the strike plate) and the exit velocity of the baseball leaving the strike plate (after impact). Mechanical Engineering Lab Research Project

I was selected, along with two other Senior Mechanical Engineers, to help Bemis Company, Inc. with a problem they were having with their plastic recycling process.  The recycled plastic clippings, "coupons", of film were transferred back to the film forming process via tubes and a large "cyclone".  The cyclone is a large funnel that carries the coupons to be grounded up and reused in making more film.  The problem Bemis was encountering was the clippings were getting statically charged and sticking to the sides of the funnel.  These coupons that were stuck trapped other coupons and forming large, basketball-sized, clumps of coupons.  Once the clumps were heavy enough, they would fall away from the cyclone wall and fall into the grinder, clogging and stopping the grinder and the entire recycling process all together.  Their temporary solution was to dangle compressed air hoses inside the cyclones and have compressed air continually being used, blowing any potential clumps off the walls 

Senior Design - Project Engineer

Worked with maintenance, store room personnel and operators to evaluate and compile a system of “critical spares” for key production lines to reduce the number of parts needed in storage which in turn decreased the amount of tax money paid on inventory.  Analyzed the popcorn line’s slurry waste problem and designed and implemented a solution which included the testing and installation of a new pump.
