Education & Training

As a professional guide, I spent time mastering the technical skills in backpacking and white water rafting, as well as the soft skills necessary to motivate and positively influence all individuals in the backcountry. Raft guiding on the Payette River promoted my physical and mental growth and ability to cater each trip specifically to the satisfaction of the customer. While guiding backpacking trips I taught many backcountry skills, evaluating each participant as they demonstrated the skills they had learned. 



•Effectively manage a class of 25-30 students.
•Follow and teach lesson plan left by permanent teacher for grades 9 to 12.
•Determine appropriate consequences for unacceptable student behavior and write reports of class behavior and progress to permanent teacher.


•Energetically engaged customers age 6-80 on and off the river.
•Learned and stayed up to date with safety skills and procedures.
•Worked with other guides as a team to keep raft trips smooth and safe.



Raft Guide

•Taught customers about backcountry environments and how to harness the wilderness in a way that is efficient and leaves no trace.
•Planned logistics for groups up to 45 people including transportation, food organization, and accommodation for all ability levels. 



Backpacking Guide

•Communicated with customers age 18+ about outdoor trips and rental gear.
•Stayed up to date with outdoor gear to explain to customers how to use it correctly and safely.
