Position: Communications Manager – Media Relations
Reports to: Director of Communications of Aspen Skiing Company
Position Description:
Aspen Skiing Company is looking for an experienced communications/media relations manager to oversee aspects of public relations initiatives aimed at driving winter visitors to the four-mountain resort of Aspen/Snowmass.
Major areas of responsibility:
•Pro-active media pitching and placement in domestic broad-based media such as travel, family, fashion, health magazines, newpapers and broadcast outlets.
•Organize and host media FAM trips throughout the season.
•Generate national newpaper ski section media list and pitch.
•Monitor editorial calendars for opportunities.
•Pitching and hosting of domestic broadcast media.
•Manage all commercial filming & broadcast/media filming on the mountains.
•Write and/or edit news releases, special editorial copy.
•Organize and manage all VNRs.
•Oversee Media Guide program.
•Manage all media follow-up including clippings, broadcast footage, and end of year PR report.
•Handle day-to-day information requests from the media.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
•3+ years of public relations/media relations experience.
•A strong knowledge of media and excellent media contacts.
•Maintain established media relationships while continually developing new media contacts.
•Must be a highly motivated self-starter who is analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage several projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
•Should have proven project-management skills, including the ability to execute – both independently and in a team atmosphere – all aspects of a variety of PR projects.
•Has the ability to formulate and articulate new or improved approaches to PR initiatives.
•Exhibits outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
•Flexible schedule and ability to travel throughout the year.
•Intermediate ability in skiing and/or snowboarding.
•Resort/tourism experience a plus.
