Hannah Lenkowski: Public Affairs Specialist in Sandy, UT

I serve as the West Desert District Public Affairs Specialist for the Bureau of Land Management in Utah. In this position, I plan and coordinate tours for dignitaries and develop communication products, marketing products, web content, and social media content for the agency. I frequently work with legislative affairs, congressional offices, local governments, and community groups. In addition, I lead public meetings and conduct interviews with media - usually regarding controversial subjects. My duties also include photography and videography for promotions and events.

• Worked on the “Respect and Protect” national marketing campaign to eliminate the looting and vandalism of archaeological and paleontological artifacts from public lands across the country. • Created an active communications plan • Met with BLM archaeologists and paleontologists to develop detailed messaging • Coordinated and conducted proactive outreach with representatives from federal agencies, state agencies, and local interest groups • Maintained a list of stakeholders and acted as point of contact • Created and maintained an editorial calendar • Strategized and implemented the campaign launch in Spring 2016 • Oversaw detailed advertising • Developed a campaign launch strategy and coordinated the launch parties

• Shared relevant information and composed new content for social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Vine, Flickr, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube and BLM Daily. Used keywords, hashtags and analytics to determine the best time and way to reach our audience. • Developed a stronger presence on BLM-Utah’s social media platforms by highlighting specific events, locations and campaigns in an interactive setting that encourages followers to share, comment and like posts. • Developed and implemented a Social Media/Communications Plan for the Federal Interagency Council on Outdoor Recreation (FICOR) at the 2015 Outdoor Retailer Show • Worked with the BLM National Office to create a strategy for sharing the BLM’s mountain biking interactive map message live from the Outerbike event where Neil Kornze was onsite for the announcement and to meet with interest groups • Maintained the BLM-Utah external website as Webmaster

• Developed and maintained partnerships with Friends of Paleontology, Dinosaur National Monument, Utah Geological Survey, University of Utah, Museum of Western Colorado, the BLM’s National Operations Center, Denver Museum of Nature and Science and others which forward BLM’s paleontological resources objectives • Provided coordination and liaison with external organizations (industry, professional, state agencies, congressional, universities, and repositories) to build coalition • Interfaced with public to provide BLM information at public outreach venues such as schools, society meetings, universities, and public information meetings • Enhanced the existing comprehensive paleontological permitting and geospatial database to make the paleontological resource management and data collection process more effective and efficient for the staff, and provide greater transparency for the public. • Was a member of the Recreation Strategy planning team and edited the final design.
