Developed a modular encoder based on emerging technology. Analyzed competitive products to define new product opportunities. Collaborated with marketing team to define product specifications. Constructed preliminary model for plastic injection molded, electronic housing. Redesigned aspects of current products to reduce cost and increase manufacturability. Interfaced with production floor to identify design issues. Corresponded with overseas manufacturers to implement change. Researched and tested new sources of bearings according to defined testing criteria. Set up assembly cell for new product line. Defined product flow, cell stocking system, and purchased necessary equipment.

Designed an automated fixture for calibrating a programmable encoder that was currently in development. Repeatability and accuracy were key. Constructed full engineering drawing set with critical tolerances and selected required purchased parts. Assembled and tested fixture. Fixture is currently in use.
